Detectives investigating the murder of Anas Chergat have released two men under investigation as further enquiries continue.

A 44-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested in connection with the man’s death earlier this week. They have since been released under investigation.

Police were called at around 2.40am on Friday 23 August to reports of a man with stab injuries in Josiah Wedgwood Street in Etruria.

Emergency services attended but sadly, the man died at the scene.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information and are asking anyone who may know something or may have seen something to come forward.

Detectives have also released an image of a woman they believe may have been in the area at the time who could help provide further information.

The woman, who is believed to have been wearing running leggings at the time, is not being treated as a suspect.

It is believed she was in the area of Josiah Wedgwood Street and Clough Street on the evening of 22 August.

Detective Inspector Alan Lyford, from the force’s Major Investigation Department, said: “This remains a thorough investigation and we are continuing to ask anyone with information to come forward.

“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 52 of 23 August, submit information to https://mipp.police.uk/operation/STAFFS19F16-PO1 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
